Swedish Massage

Back Massage (Swedish)Swedish is the most common massage technique used in spas and gyms for overall relaxation.  This gentle, relaxing massage using an integration of various strokes, such as:

Effleurage
Long, gliding strokes which warm and soothe tissue and flush waste materials, while increasing circulation.

Petrissage
Kneading of muscle tissue.

Friction
Breaks up adhesions, releases histamines and relaxes specific areas.

Vibration
Tremulous movements that relieve tension by stimulating peripheral nerve endings.

Tapotement
Brisk, percussive movements which break up congested tissues, increase surface circulation and relax tight muscles.

Joint Movement
Actively and passively reduces stiffness by stretching ligaments and tendons to increase range of motion.
